The following commemorative events were organised:

   Commissioned work

Antón García Abril composed Juventus, a concerto for two pianos, as a special commission from JME.

The world premiere took place in the Auditorio Nacional de Música de Madrid in September 2002 with the Spanish National Youth Orchestra with soloists Iván Martín and Daniel Ligorio, conducted by Josep Vicent.

“Juventus” has since been performed elsewhere including Barcelona, Soria and Seville.

Este concierto constituyó un punto culminante de los actos de celebración del Cincuentenario, al que asistieran numerosas personalidades de la cultura, la política y la música de nuestro país.


The symbol for the 50th Anniversary was designed by the Catalan artists Frederic Amat.

National Congress

National Congress The National Congress for the 50th Anniversary took place on 22, 23 and 24 November 2002 in Seville. Taking part were delegates from the Asociaciones Locales, experts in music technology and individuals from the cultural life of Andalusia and other parts of Spain. "Juventus" was again performed with the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla in the Teatro de la Maestranza with soloists Eleuterio Domínguez and Daniel Ligorio.

Honorary Committee

The Honorary Committee was made up of musicians who had worked alongside JME over its 50 year history. Cristóbal Halffter (conductor of the very first JME concert) was President of the Committee.. Actual listing.

Patron of Honour

Alongside the Honorary Committee, JME invited a number of individuals from the worlds of Spanish culture and business to become Honorary Patrons. The President was Federico Mayor Zaragoza, former Director General of UNESCO and current President of the Fundación Cultura de Paz.
