It began in 1979 and is the only competition in Spain which caters for all the instruments of the orchestra, including the less common ones. It is open to young musicians up to the age of 23 (26 in some instruments).
Hosted by a Local Association, the Concurso Permanente takes place twice a year in different locations throughout Spain and is open to Spanish nationals and those resident in Spain. It is split into different instrumental categories as follows:
-string instruments, guitar and other plucked instruments (Ciutadella de Menorca, 27-30 March 2008)
-piano, accordion, keyboard and organ (Alcalá de Henares, 23-26 October 2008)
-woodwind, brass and percussion (León, 16-19 April 2009)
-voice, instrumental chamber/voice groups and harp
(Bilbao, 19-22 November 2009)
