XVI LIED PERFORMANCE COURSE

September 23th to 29th 2011

Repertoire

The 2011 repertoire will be made up of Lieder for piano by Franz Liszt and Johannes Brahms. The course is primarily aimed at existing duos, but singers are also invited to apply, and pianists in specific cases.

 

Conditions of selection and participation

Existing duos singer-pianist will be given priority in the auditions. Singers are advised to bring their own pianist and may not be older than 30 by September 23d.

 

Audition to participate as actively involved students: Participants will be selected following a first-day audition in which each duo will perform 2 songs from their repertoire. The selected songs should be as diverse as possible. Those candidates who are not admitted as actively involved students may join the course as observers. There will be a maximum of 10 actively involved singers.

Participants living outside Spain are invited to send a demo CD (or - preferred- mp3files by email) before August 7th 2011 in compliance with the requirements set out above. (This closing date may be brought forward if a large number of applications are received. Applicants are therefore advised to send their application as soon as possible).The results will be announced soon by end August.

 

Repertoire for the course:

A minimum of 10 songs. Singers must know them by heart, as not studied Lieder will not be sang. Students must bring the scores they are to work on during the course with an additional copy for the professor.

  Course schedule

Friday 23d: Auditions & enrolment

Saturday 24th to Wednesday 28th : Daily classes

Thursday 29th: Rehearsals and final concert at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC). The concert will be recorded by the local Catalan radio Catalunya Música.

 

Languages of the course:

English, Spanish, German.

 

Working location:

Classes will take place at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya- ESMUC- (c/Padilla, 155, building in the Auditori). Rehearsal rooms will be available.

 

Accommodation:

JM Spain and Sercotel, a hotel chain that manages hotels in Spain, have reached to a collaboration agreement. This means yu can get good prices in the hotels of this chain contacting our office.

 

Application fee: 50 € per person. This fee cannot be refunded under any circumstances.

 

Enrolment

Active participants:

            Singers / pianists: 240 €

            Duos (singer and pianist): 390 €

Audit participants: 110 € (whole course)

Audit for one day only: 40 €

 

Pupils from the ESMUC will be able to participate as AUDIT pupils without any fees.

 

The application fee must be paid before September 5th 2011 to Jeunesses Musicales of Spain account: 0182.0210.38 0201529949 of the BBVA (Branch office Rambla, 38 08002 Barcelona). Please telephone (00 34) 93 244 90 50 before the transfer to confirm that there are still vacancies and get the swift code details. The enrolment fee is to be paid directly in cash in Barcelona on Friday 23d.

 

Scholarships/ Prizes

At the end of the course each participant, whether actively involved or as an observer, will receive an attendance Diploma. The following scholarships/prizes may be awarded to the best participants:

 

"Beca Masterclass" - The duo will be able to take part in the following Lied Course with no fee charge. 

 

"Premio Concierto de Juventudes Musicales de España" - The duo will perform a concert organized by JME. All travel and stay expenses will be assumed by JME; however, please note you will not be paid any fee.

 

Great Lied pianist Wolfram Rieger is known world-wide for his performances with Juliane Banse, Barbara Bonney, Thomas Hampson, Thomas Quasthoff, Matthias Goerne... and he performs regularly at important venues in Europe, United States and Japan. He offers classes in Europe (Berlin, Vienna, Tyrol and Barcelona) and Japan and has been teaching Lied in the Hochschule für Musik of Berlin since 1998.

 

 

  • By applying for the masterclass you allow JM Spain to use the photographs that may be taken during the course. You also allow Catalunya Música to record and broadcast the final concert that will take place on Sunday 25th.
